How Can You Factorize X^2 – 9?

We will calculate and show you how to factorize x2 – 9 by difference of squares method.

Step 1 – x2 – 9

Step 2 – We use difference of squares method to factorize x2 – 9

 = a2 – b2 = (a + b) (a – b)

 = So, considering a = x and b = 3

 = x2 – 32

Answer = (x + 3) (x – 3)

We can recheck that our answer is correct by calculating the product of the factors we got in the answer.

 = (x + 3) (x – 3)

 = x (x – 3) + 3 (x – 3)

 = x2 – 3x + 3x – 9

Answer = x2 – 9
